Therapeutic Recreation Assistant- Part Time

Job Summary: This is an exciting time to join Catholic Eldercare! We are currently seeking a part-time Therapeutic Recreation Assistant. This role is a fun, challenging and rewarding opportunity for someone who has a desire to work with the elderly. The position is responsible for implementing a wide variety of group activities, such as bingo, playing trivia games, and leading simple exercise groups. This role is required to perform one to one room visits and documentation or resident attendance. The position is part-time working every other weekend or more hours available if needed.


Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

This is a rewarding and challenging opportunity to work with seniors that have Alzheimer's and other types of cognitive impairments. Responsibilities include: 

  • Leading group activities such as sing-a-longs, Bingo, trivia, reminisce, exercise groups
  • Providing quiet one-to-one visits, using aroma therapy, hand massage,. relaxing music
  • Accurate resident attendance documentation required
  • Catholic Eldercare is committed to recognition and effective management of each resident's pain and suffering. Every employee is responsible to seek relief for any resident observed to be in pain (physical, spiritual or otherwise) through therapeutic intervention *hand holding, physical touch, acknowledgement of discomfort* and reporting the discomfort to the appropriate staff
  • Perform all duties in a manner that is consistent with quality standards, infection control, and safety measures, which includes using Standard Precautions at all times
  • Participate in in-service programs, mandatory training, and attend meetings in the interest of improving skills, acquiring knowledge and meeting state and federal regulations
  • Remain current on tuberculosis screening
  • Work as a team member and adapt to changes in work assignments to meet resident and/or staffing needs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Experience working with adults that have cognitive and physical disabilities preferred
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, work as a team member and able to multi-task
  • Must have excellent English communication skills in speaking, and have the self-confidence to lead groups and work independently
  • Ideal candidates may have background in Therapeutic Rec., COTA, Health, Education, Music Therapy, Communications, Certified Nursing Assistants encouraged to apply

Director of Activities- Full Time

Job Summary: This position is responsible for planning, developing and providing a quality Activity /Social Program designed to assist residents in using their personal potential both physically and mentally


Essential Functions:

  • Must have excellent communication skills; written and verbal: to be able to read aloud, speak in front of groups and formulate ideas on paper
  • Must have excellent organizational skills
  • Must possess the following mental abilities: alertness, judgement, initiative, mathematical ability, creativity and imagination
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to work irregular hours, occasional weekends and evenings
  • Must possess leadership/supervisory skills

Responsibilities, Duties:
  • Develops and maintains an activities program which is reflective of the residents interest. Leads activity groups including exercise classes
  • Communicates and coordinates activity programming with all departments
  • Supervises the activities programming provided by all personnel
  • Developing and updating activities' policies and procedures
  • Responsible to meet requirement of Federal and State Health Department's and other regulatory entities as they relate to activities
  • Must order and maintain supplies needed for activities
  • Assists other departments with special events and family functions
  • Ability to learn and assist in other areas of the facility
  • Report resident changes to the staff on duty
  • Documents as required
  • Offers suggestions and ideas for improvement
  • Responds appropriately to safety hazards, fire drills and other emergency situations
  • Reports injuries to self, residents or visitors immediately to the supervisor
  • Maintains at all times privacy and confidentially of resident, resident's records and resident's living environment
  • Understands and adheres to the Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy. Is familiar with the Resident's Bill of Rights and adheres to it
  • Appropriately communicates with resident and/or resident's family
  • Assist with the transportation of residents to and from local appointments/and/or doctor's appointment. (If required)
  • Must work as a team member with other personnel, supervisor, RN and the community
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills
  • Assist residents in developing interpersonal relationship in socializing effectively and in developing the confidence needed to participate in group activities
  • Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently
  • Promotes independence, not dependence with residents, offering choices and fostering self-help skills
  • Must be punctual, with satisfactory attendance record. Provide proper notice of tardiness or absence
  • Must have knowledge of crafts and games; record keeping procedures, activity procedures and knowledge of the community

Education and Experience:
High school education. Some experiences preferred.

Life Enrichment Coordinator- Full Time

Life Enrichment Assistant- Full Time

Presbyterian Homes Summer Wood of Plymouth is seeking a part time Life Enrichment Assistant to join it's team. The Life Enrichment Assistant is responsible for implementing and monitoring assigned Life Enrichment/Leisure life programming for residents consistent with regulations and established polices, procedures and best practices.


This person must be available Tuesday- Friday 12:30pm-4:30pm as well as two of those mornings, 20-25 hours per week
